The Thomson ball bushing bearing works very smoothly and doesn't have much friction because it is made with severe tolerance allowance. However, these advantages don't have any effect on the product without a careful setup process.

The most important things to consider are the alignment of the bearing and the parallelism of the shaft.

For smooth motion, two shafts are generally used in the KR shaft.

Housing should be installed and carefully adjusted according to the following procedures.

The following procedures are ignored in case of a single body housing with tow bearings.

The interval between the shaft and reference plane of the housing has to be paralleled within 0.025mm.

You can simply bolt and insert cores in it with precise adjustment according to the setup plane with which the housing is bolted.

Housing setups plates according to the following procedures.


a. Assemble a rectangular supporter to the corner of the carriage and consider it as an assembly reference plane.

b. Set up two housings and temporarily bolt them by making the reference plane at the opposite of the rectangular supporter. Figure 1.

c. Set up another pair of housings at the opposite side of the carriage and temporarily bolt them too.

d. Insert the h6 shaft with a precise diameter in those two pairs of housings and read the distance from the surface of the rectangular supporter to the shaft. Figure 2.

e. After adjusting the alignments of those tow pairs of housings, completely tighten up the bolts which fix carriage and housing.

When the carriage is completely ready, install the shaft to the bottom of the machine.

For smooth and accurate motion, the shaft has to be installed with parallelism in stroke, less than 0.025mm.

This can be done with the following procedure.


a. At first, place one shaft(end part support or whole support) in the right part of the bottom and bolt it manually.

b. Fix the shaft with bolts to the right location checking the instant location of it with the laser, autocollimator, or another optical instrument.

c. After fixing the first shaft, put another shaft in the right place and bolt it by hand too.

d. And then, align both shafts to be paralleled by moving the carriage back and forth. Figure 3 and 4

e. Be cautious with this. In the case of the whole support system, move the carriage close to the bolt assembling location and bolt them. In the case of the end part support up the bolts. Now, the shaft assembling process is completed.

f. In addition, you can simply see figure 6 and check whether the edge reference plane of the carriage moves parallel with the shaft or not. Figure 6.
